PhD topic – Efficient daily track monitoring system

Don Skerman

Research summary

Daily monitoring of track faults using revenue wagons is now well developed but at prohibitive costs. Original concepts of this approach were directed at providing daily warnings based on wagon–track interaction. As the technologies have developed, more sophistication has been added such that the systems and background processing has approached that of a track recording car. The proposal is to go back to basics with a system that will retail for about 10 per cent the cost of current IoT and IoR technologies.
